Live updates on the 2024 US Election results as Trump celebrates his victory and comments on Elon Musk’s rise in influence.
Election Day has arrived in the United States, marking a pivotal moment in the historic presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, alongside key congressional elections that will determine the balance of power in Washington. Despite concerns over misinformation, foreign interference, and the safety of electoral staff, the voting process has proceeded smoothly with minimal disruptions.
Ahead of Election Day, an impressive 82 million Americans cast their ballots through early voting, with only a few challenges, particularly in Pennsylvania, a critical swing state. Polls in seven key battleground states—Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—show a tight race between Harris and Trump, with Harris holding a slight edge.
Initial exit polls from Edison Research reveal that 47% of voters in these states view Harris favorably, while Trump has the support of 45%. This marks a slight shift from 2020, when Trump’s approval rating was at 46%. Notably, Republican turnout has surged compared to recent elections, thanks to concerted efforts by Trump and the Republican National Committee to counter the Democrats’ traditional advantage in early voting.
Even in storm-affected areas like western North Carolina, where Hurricane Helene recently made landfall, early voting proceeded without major incident. The North Carolina Board of Elections reported no problems as of Tuesday, following a series of legislative changes designed to ensure access to the polls.
Trump, in his remarks, affirmed that he would accept the election results as long as the process is fair. On the other hand, Harris, speaking from a Democratic National Committee phone bank, urged voters to remain vigilant against any attempts by Trump to undermine the integrity of the election, emphasizing that grassroots efforts represent “the best of who we are.”
